The Natural Remedies I Actually Use (Not Just Talk About)

    By Jo Wood··1 min read

I've been a homeopathy believer for as long as I've been organic, which is to say a very long time. I always have my little kit of homeopathic remedies. Arnica is the one I use most, for bruising, for muscle soreness, for recovering from anything physical. It works in a way that still quietly amazes me every time.

For colds and the early signs of illness, I go straight to Echinacea and elderberry syrup. The moment I feel something coming I take both and most of the time I stop it before it takes hold. I've been doing this for years and I genuinely believe it's a big part of why I'm rarely properly ill.

Magnesium is something I've added more recently and I wish I'd started sooner. I take it before bed and the difference in my sleep quality and muscle tension has been significant. Most people are deficient in it and don't know.

For skin that's flared up or irritated, raw aloe vera gel from the plant is my first reach. I keep a plant in my kitchen. You snap off a leaf, split it open, and apply the gel directly. It's extraordinary for calming inflammation.

I'm not against conventional medicine, I want to be clear about that. There are times when you need it and you should use it. But for the day-to-day things, the minor ailments, the general maintenance of feeling well, I'd always rather reach for something natural first. My body has responded better to that approach for thirty years. That's enough evidence for me.
